What age are these for?

From birth. They're board books built for babies and toddlers, but the facts on each spread mean they keep working with three- and four-year-olds who want to know more about what they're looking at.

What are peep-through books, and why do they work with babies?

Each page has a cut-out that shows part of the next scene. A child looks through, guesses, turns and finds out. For a baby that's cause and effect in its simplest form, and it gives them something to do with their hands while you read. It's usually the thing that keeps a very young child at a book longer than a minute.

What does it support?

Curiosity and early investigation, which sits under EYLF Outcome 4 (children are confident and involved learners). The four settings also open up conversations about animals, habitats and the natural world, which runs into Outcome 2.

Will they survive the nursery room?

Yes. Thick board pages, small enough at 21 x 19 cm for little hands, and no flaps to tear off — the cut-outs are part of the page itself.
